How to Make Free Phone Calls in Korea

Traveling in Korea and thinking about renting a cellphone? Maybe you live in Korea, and you lost your cellphone. Whatever the situation may be, you might find yourself needing to make a call but without a phone in Korea. Well it’s nice that Seoul is pretty awesome. The Seoul metro created an easy way to get in contact with your friends, and it’s all for free.

Seoul’s subway system is littered with “Digital View” booths, which are essentially free smartphones for giants. But they’re free for anyone of us mortals to use. You can make any domestic call within Korea for free. Just pick up and dial. It’s that simple. There’s also a touchscreen that will allow you to see a map of what’s close by. Check out this blogger’s review of the map functionality.

Other services offered by Digital View are movies listings, free coupons, weather, and news.

Check out these videos that explore Digital View:

Tip 1: These aren’t found at ALL Seoul subway stations. But you can be sure to find these in the busier stations.
Tip 2: The number that will show up when you call from this will start with 070. Warn your friends beforehand if you can. Some people might not pick up as 070 might seem to some like a telemarketing number (it’s actually for internet phones).
