At a popular hiking course near the coastal city of Yeosu, Yeongchwisan Mountain is where the Azelea Flower Bloom Festival is held every April. Traditionally thought of as a holy mountain where spirits dwell, this is where ancient Koreans would go to offer prayers to the gods. Today, the spirits may dwell in the tens of thousands of pink azalea flowers that bloom so vibrantly in the spring. The Yeongchwisan Azalea Flower Festival has the Miss Azalea Flower Beauty Pageant as well. If staying overnight, consider the temple stay program at Heungguksa Temple, which is home to several national treasures and has services in both English and Mandarin.
