There’s always that awkward situation where you’re talking with someone but their zipper is open. It can be an awkward topic to bring up in conversation, so a lot of Koreans use a fun phrase to make that situation a bit lighter! Watch this video to see how Seoul’s ancient gate, Namdaemun, is used to tell someone to zip up!
Seoul built 4 Main Gates hundreds of years ago to protect itself from invaders: Bukdaemun (North Gate), Dongdaemun (East Gate), Seodaemun (West Gate) and Namdaemun (South Gate). And a lot of Koreans refer to a person’s pant zipper as Namdaemun (South Gate). It’s a fun way to bring up an awkward topic. And it’ll get your friend to zip up! ๐
