Namdaemun Market – Seoulistic

Namdaemun Market

(남대문시장)

Dating back to 1414, Namdaemun Market is the largest traditional market in Korea with over 10,000 vendors. It spans several city blocks and has buildings with several levels. It’s a maze of toys, clothing, pillows, blankets, souvenirs, art supplies, jewelry supplies, camera shops, banchan (side dishes), restaurants and anything else you can think of under the sun. The complex is a crazy experience with ajumma aunties carrying food deliveries on their heads and ajoeshi uncles yelling out the sale of the day.

Tip 1: Exchanging money? The grannies in the middle of the market near the tourist information center are rumored to gived the best rates in the city. Be warned, though. They’re really mean.
