Cheonggye Stream (청계천)

Cheonggye Stream is a popular spot for love birds going on a date in Seoul. Grab dinner at some of the nice restaurants that can be found along the stream, then head over to any number of cafes where you can get your favorite drinks and head over to Cheonggye Stream. One of the requisites of a date is to have some time to just hang out and chat. And Cheonggye Stream is a great place for a date in Seoul just for that reason. You can sit by the stream and dip your feet in the water and just have a nice casual conversation with your date. If you’re not much of a conversationalist, you can always admire the little fishies in the water or even get a local artist to draw you a picture. There’s always a few musicians to just listen to music. It’s also known as one of the most romantic spots in Seoul because of the beautiful night lights as well as the uber romantic wishing well (not an actual well, just a spot where people throw coins). How can a date in Seoul get more romantic than making a wish together with that special someone? “Let’s be together forever and ever!”

Samcheongdong (삼청동)

Samcheongdong is the ideal place to go if you want to get to know Korea better as well as your date better. Situated between Gyeongbokgung Palace and Changdeokgung Palace, you’ll have two beautiful palaces to peruse while you’re chatting it up with your date. In addition, there are also famous art galleries as part of neighborhood sites to see. More than the palaces and galleries, however, you might want to check out one of Seoul’s most beautiful neighborhoods, Bukchon Hanok Village (북촌한옥마을). It is one of the last few (protected) remnants of traditional Korean homes (hanok) in Seoul making it a site to see for visitors and residents who are looking for a romantic spot. Just walking the streets and admiring the traditional Korean architecture can be worth the trip in itself. But what kind of date doesn’t have food, drinks or coffee? Lucky for you Samcheongdong is filled with a great number of cafes and restaurants designed with a precision for atmosphere. You may have to pay a bit of a premium at the venues here at Samcheongdong, but in return you’ll be sure to get a great date in Seoul!

Hongdae (홍대)

Hongdae is known for its club culture and night life, but it’s also another option for going on a date in Seoul. It’s not necessarily a romantic place to go on a date, but it’s definitely a very fun place. If you’re idea of a fun date is to listen to street music and watch street performers while you and your date sit outside at the park and have a drink, Hongdae is where you should take your date. Although the crowds can become quite large at times, that may also be part of the fun. But there are also side streets and alleys where you and your Seoul date can disappear to discover beautiful cafes and restaurants. There are also games that can be played on the street for prizes, a favorite activity among many couples. And don’t forget the numerous jazz clubs, which are always great for having a good time.

Tip: Try going to Hongdae from the Hapjeong Station/Sangsu Station for more of the side streets and alleys.

The Han River (한강)

Han River is a popular destination for Seoul dates because of its numerous activities as well as romantic setting. If you and your date are into outdoor activities, Han River has bike and inline skate rental options so you and your date can for a romantic cruise. It’s a romantic way to get out in the sun and have a good time. Another romantic way to spend your day at the Han River is to pack yourself a picnic. If the weather is nice enough, the Han River is a perfect place to have a date in Seoul. After your picnic, don’t forget to take a stroll in the numerous parks or even just alongside the river. When night comes, don’t forget to check out the light and water shows that come daily. If you’re lucky enough, maybe your Han River date may just end up in a Korean drama-esque moment!

Itaewon (이태원)

Itaewon, the foreigner district of Seoul, has been around for decades but has just recently become one of the hottest spots in Seoul. This means that although there are cheap dive bars and dingy clubs that have been around for a minute, there are a plethora of fantastic new restaurants with some really good food. You might want to consider Itaewon for it’s international food options if you’re going on a date with a Korean person (international food has become popular meal options for dates in Korea). The restaurants here aren’t pretentious either. The lounges here are chic and will have plenty of cocktail options for you and your Seoul date to help move the conversation along. Itaewon is quite popular though, so be sure to make reservations if you can.

My boyfriend and I went to Olympic Park on our first date in May. There was a rose festival garden with every color imaginable and we rented a bicycle cart. It was so much fun cycling around the park in the cart! Samcheongdong, Hongdae, and Itaewon are some of our favorite places too, awesome restaurants at all three.
