(현대식당)

A locally famous samgyeopsal restaurant, Hyeondae Sikdang is also known as one of the best places to get kimchi jjigae in Seoul. Many local office workers love to stop by this restaurant during lunch time to grab a homely meal of kimchi jjigae, which has a deep and funky flavor and has big chunks of pork. It’s a perfect pairing with a simple bowl of white rice as well as their famous Korean rolled omelettes (gyeranmari). At night, another crowd of office workers usually stop by to grill some pork belly (samgyeopsal), which is what this restaurant is originally known for, but they also have delicious cuts of pork jowl (hanjeongsal) and beef brisket (chadolbagi). The restaurant itself is simple and humble, but the food is fantastic and is a local secret that most tourist don’t know about.

Note: Right next door is Mudeungsan, a restaurant that focuses on premium hanu beef in a classy venue.
